Runway Rockstars showcases the beauty of human lives through fashion

McKinney, TX (June 28, 2021) — While walking down the runway wearing fashionable designs and showcasing the beauty of humanity, Beautiful Lives Project is sending its most inclusive models down the runway for a special event in celebration of the disabled community. Runway Rockstars is a fun-filled fashion show welcoming guests to experience joy and unity in an immersive and enriching program with accessibility for all. The Beautiful Lives Project presents Runway Rockstars in Historic Downtown McKinney on Sat. July 3, directly following the city's Red, White and BOOM! Parade at 107 N. Kentucky Street.

"Runway Rockstars is such a special event for everyone involved because of its message and efforts to create a fun and positive experience for disabled individuals who might often feel like they're at a disadvantage," said Stacy Apple, the executive director of Beautiful Lives Project. "The fashion show is one of our exciting and successful annual events because of how encouraging and uplifting it can be for all participants. We're so excited to host this event, for our models to walk the stage and to see the outpouring of community support from individuals who understand the importance of inclusivity and enriching the lives of others."

Working with the community, organizations and individuals to create opportunities to give people with disabilities the chance to participate in activities and events not often available to them due to physical or facility limitations, Beautiful Lives Project is a nonprofit organization creating accessibility for all citizens. The Runway Rockstars fashion show is part of that mission to celebrate the beauty of human life, the love of family, the making of friendships, and the triumph over challenges while promoting inclusivity and enriching people's lives through athletics, performing arts, visual arts, nature, and wellness.

Initially established in 2018 as a way for anyone with special needs to participate in a runway fashion event, the show has proven to be fun, build confidence and instill self-esteem in a group of individuals from all walks of life. With the essence of the Make-A-Wish foundation, the charm of Returning the Favor, and the energy of America's Got Talent, Beautiful Lives Project kicks the doors wide open with their first in-person event since the Covid-19 pandemic.

Locally owned boutiques Apricot Lane, Cynthia Elliot, Jasper & Petals, LY Outfitters, and Willow House have generously come together in the spirit of community to style these special models for the runway. Making the McKinney show a successful production is crucial in eventually bringing Runway Rockstars to suburban towns across the country. This production can bring joy and unity to the disabled community across America.

"I am so interested in getting my daughter involved. She has CHARGE Syndrome and has had a really difficult year medically. After being so isolated this year, I know it would raise her spirits (and mine) if she had something like this to look forward to," said a parent of a Runway Rockstars model.

The Runway Rockstars fashion show is an annual event recognizing unique and valuable individuals who may have been born with differences but shine bright and are full of character and beauty. This year, the event will occur in downtown McKinney following the city's annual 4th of July celebratory parade on Saturday, July 3, located at 107 N. Kentucky Street.

Guests are welcome to enjoy the fashion show or get involved by volunteering for the event. Sponsorship packages are available for businesses that would like to participate. For those interested in donating or who cannot attend the day of, donation opportunities are available and will help support production costs.

With great elation and a healthy dose of cautiousness, hordes of fashion folk descended upon Paris and Milan this past week for men's fashion week spring 2022—the first in-person fashion week since 2020. The French and Italian cities were slowly opening back up after another wave of Covid-19 outbreaks swept continental Europe earlier this year. And despite some brands sticking to digital unveilings for their collections, a handful of houses including Dior and Hermès were able to put on full-fledged runway shows, much to the joy of fashion editors who missed attending presentations in real life. Dior, in fact, took the opportunity to transform its Paris showroom into a cotton candy-colored desert for its spring 2022 debut—made in collaboration with the musician Travis Scott. Despite the delights featured at these live events, the clothes are truly what made the week special. Standout prints at Casablanca, knitwear and layers at Vetements, and Wales Bonner's retro short-shorts (reflective of this summer's leading trend for men), were our favorites from what is so far shaping up to be a standout season.
