A melancholy opera set on a sandy beach, the performance presents a future where the effects of climate change have reached catastrophic levels, but still do little to disturb carefree sunbathers. DEAR ABBY: Our 19-year-old daughter is wonderful in many ways. She’s smart, attends a university on academic scholarships and earns excellent grades. The problem is the way she dresses. Her shorts are so short they show some cheek, the bathing suits she wears in our backyard pool are almost thongs, she runs at the track in spandex and a sports bra and gets catcalls. I understand the outfit would be OK for a formal race, but at the track? Why not throw on a T-shirt? The most recent example was a Sunday afternoon, ladies-only baby shower, to which she wore a pale pink (it looked nude) clingy dress that barely covered her butt. No one else was dressed like that. Kroy Biermann ’s former NFL agent is suing him for allegedly neglecting to pay more than $22,000 in fees. Since some pools were closed this summer and less swimming happened, most stores have racks that are overflowing with leftover tankinis and bikinis.  We're hearing about great deals on bathings suits and more. At one point over the summer, I read that most people have saved $1500 during the pandemic because they're not traveling as much, nightlife has been severely limited, and gyms memberships have been on hold.  Cool!  Let's blow some of that excess on bathing suits and patio furniture. Local film crews dressed up two Wilmington homes in wintry precipitation Tuesday for filming on the romantic TV movie WILMINGTON – The bathing suits had barely been put away from Labor Day when the snow began to fall on one Port City neighborhood on Tuesday. Beachgoers came armed with canopies, umbrellas and bathing suits, beating the heat Saturday, Sept. 5, at local beaches to cool off in the chilly ocean water. Some stretches of sand along Orange County’s 42 miles of coast were packed with people, while lifeguards at other beaches said crowds were busier two weeks ago, before most local schools got underway and summer started to wind down. While beaches have always been popular for the Labor Day holiday weekend, authorities have been encouraging people to remember the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and practice caution. The winters of the Great Northwest usually have us pining for warmer days and longer nights, and then rather inconsolable when it’s too cold to run around in our bathing suits all day. Not me. Not this year. Because I did everything this summer. Every sport, chore, adventure, sun-dress-affair – and with an intensity that had me begging for frost by mid-August. At this point, I’d even be grateful if a locust plague came and ate my garden to avoid the work of harvesting. All three kale plants and the one runt pumpkin that made it, that is. The house got painted, the yard got landscaped, the lawn planted, the starts grown and transplanted. There was a wedding, a half-dozen ultramarathons (at least some of them intentional), mountain adventures, canoe adventures, camping and hiking and climbing.
