Man with saggy pants caught stealing at Friendswood Whataburger

Police are asking for the public's help identifying a man that was filmed burglarizing a car in broad daylight Nov. 16 at a Friendswood Whataburger.

The suspect smashed the victim's window at the Whataburger at 214 E. Parkwood Avenue around 10 a.m. Nov. 16. While all that can be seen of the actual suspect from the video is his sagging pants, the crime is clearly documented.

The suspect is seen leaning into the car through the broken window, grabbing something from the car's passenger seat and then jumping into a 2018 Nissan Sentra 4-door with paper license plate 10005E9.

According to a Facebook post from the Friendswood Police Department, the suspect followed the victim to the Whataburger after she made a withdrawal at a nearby Chase Bank off W. Bay Area Boulevard.

After the city and police department shared the video, some readers criticized the person filming the crime, saying they did not do enough to stop it. Friendswood Police said the person filming did the right thing and it's best not to interfere when a crime is in process.

"Most of the time, the best thing a person can do is be a good witness," Friendswood Police Spokesperson Lisa Price commented on the post. "We appreciate what this witness did, the video will aid in prosecution and no one got hurt!"

Price said it's a class A misdemeanor for vehicle burglary and that police are currently following up on leads.

The suspect is seen on video wearing wearing a black hoodie and black, saggy sweat pants with writing on the left leg. Anyone with information regarding the vehicle or the suspect is asked to contact Friendswood PD at 281-996-3300.
