Oregon State displays vintage clothing at old downtown Meier & Frank store - KGW.com

PORTLAND, Ore. — A window display at the former Meier & Frank department store, now the Nines Hotel, is giving shoppers a peak into the past. Every piece of clothing, every accessory in the window display is an authentic vintage item that was, at one time, sold at the store dating back to the 1920s. The artifacts came from a collection of historic clothing stored under lock and key in a special room on the Oregon State University campus in Corvallis. Some of the clothes in the collection there date back to the 15th century. They are part of the university's apparel design program. "We have pre-Columbian pieces but the majority, I would say, is 1700s to 2000s," said curator Dawn Figueroa. "I think it's a way to learn about history without having to put a lot of mental effort into it," she said. "You can look and see something...

Free People's Sweater Pants Are Selling Like Crazy - WHOWHATWEAR

Image
Much to our dismay, Black Friday has come and gone, but the memory of the most highly anticipated shopping day of the year lingers on here at Who What Wear. Specifically, our commerce team has been diligently collecting data from the weekend and filling us in on exactly what shoppers were buying online. While people were surely checking names off of their holiday shopping lists over Black Friday weekend, based on what the best selling items were, we're quite sure that they were shopping for themselves too. And the affordable "ugly" pants that reigned supreme are worthy of gift giving and buying for yourself. The pants we're referring to are Free People's Cozy Knit Trousers. The $148 pants are high rise, cropped, and made of sweater material. The pants are perfect for lounging but the pockets and button waist make them appropriate for streetwear as well, which might have something to do with their popularity. The grandpa-esque pants come in three cool colors, a...
